There are other ways to truly measure wellbeing. GDP has never contemplated important aspects of our lives like health, education, or access to public transportation and nature's preservation. The Common Good Product can help assess the impact legislations and other economic policies have to core values and societal goals through direct democracy and community involvement. ECOnGOOD is innovating for a better world based on sound goals and appropriate measures beyond GDP. Explore the framework in action, including CGP pilots in Spain and Germany in their brief policy paper at: https://lnkd.in/g4HKmEtk Economy for the Common Good Belgium, Economy for the Common Good Nederland, ECOnGOOD Switzerland, ECOnGOOD Italia #ECG #beyondgdp #community #democracy #policy #postgrowthalliance #health #education #nature

“The economy is our material relationship with each other and with the rest of the living world. We must ask ourselves: What do we want that relationship to be like? Do we want it to be about domination and extraction? Or do we want it to be about reciprocity and care?” With this quote from Jason Hickel we set the stage for the Danish premiere of Martin Oetting's film "PURPOSE – A Wellbeing Economy" last week in Empire Bio. For Rose Holm and me, it was incredible to see the cinema packed with 180+ people from so many walks of life. And so #HOPE inspiring. Profound change starts with a question, followed by the innate curiosity and openness to seek answers outside the prevailing dogma. We felt that we had contributed to bringing the groundbreaking work of Katherine Trebeck, Prof. Lorenzo Fioramonti, and the many people involved in the Wellbeing Economy Alliance - WEAll worldwide to a wider audience, asking and solving for the fundamental question: What might an #economy look like that is designed to serve and sustain #human and #non-human #life within the #planetaryboundaries, now and for future #generations? How we manage to make it the other way around blows my mind every day. Therefore, this fundamental existential question concerns us all 🌎 and should not be left to economists or politicians alone. It also hinges on our daily choices as people, workers, and citizens to use our #wisdom, #power and #agency to demand and contribute to an economic system in service of life 🌱– not in detriment of it. We will be back & are looking forward to continue reimaging our lives and economies together with all you. So, a huge thank you for showing up with you passion, ideas, sceptisim, love, hopes, agency, hopes, anxieties, questions … and all the other sentiments that keeps reminding us that this discussion cannot be about numbers in a spreadsheet. Martin, thanks for sharing your film with us, to Mads Falkenfleth Jensen and Dani Hill-Hansen🌱 for sharing their experience of establishing and mobilising Wellbeing Economics in Denmark. And a thanks to our friends and partners Nordic Impact Investing Network , Rethinking Economics Danmark BLOXHUB Re-lab, WELA - Wellbeing Economy Lab & When! When! for gathering your people. #Sustainability #Regenerativeeconomy #ClimateAction #WellBeing

"...the truth is, our current system is working exactly as it was designed to, just not for the greater good of everyone. If we really want to fix poverty, if we want children to flourish, we have to go as far upstream as we can. We have to radically improve the economic system that underpins it all." Excellent article Georgie Craw! Proud to get the chance to work with you at Wellbeing Economy Alliance Aotearoa NZ and Wellbeing Economy Alliance - WEAll https://lnkd.in/gMMqVmpj
What kind of economy produces the highest adolescent suicide rate? Ours. This is the question at the heart of my opinion piece, published on The Spinoff: https://lnkd.in/gfU8_6J4 Spurred by the latest UNICEF Innocenti Child Wellbeing Report, which ranked New Zealand last in child and youth mental health amongst comparable countries, I discuss how young people are being told (explicitly or implicitly) that they should expect a lower quality of life than their parents. Less stability. Less hope. That’s not natural, and it’s not inevitable. As a parent, I believe we’re here to make the world better for our children and the generations that follow. Three steps we can take to reclaim our economies so that they serve people and planet, not the other way around: 1️⃣ Grasp the principles of wellbeing economies – Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics is the best-known (https://lnkd.in/ei752E4E). 2️⃣ Find our own path to exiting damaging economic systems – here's one great Substack post on how to reduce our dependence on capitalism (https://lnkd.in/ey_2vshU). 3️⃣ Join and support the wellbeing economy movement – International Degrowth Network, Design School for Regenerating Earth, and the Wellbeing Economy Alliance - WEAll are just three active and substantial groups. My full post on ‘wellbeing economies’ – that is, economic systems designed to maximise wellbeing rather than income – on Substack here - https://lnkd.in/eHDGprTk
